Boston Neighborhoods: South Boston

Jaime, from La Vie... J'aimeand I found each other on Instagram last year and a few weeks ago we finally met in person at the Local Love market, totally unplanned. It was a nice surprise. Today she is here to tells us about her favorite spots in South Boston

Hi SCAVENGENIUS readers! My name is Jaime, and I live in South Boston, otherwise known as Southie.  I moved here just under four years ago and have lived at three different apartments. Southie’s neighborhoods are split as the east side and west side with Broadway (East and West) as the main road.  I first lived on the east side and now I am living on the west side. I love Southie because it’s the perfect mix of city life and neighborhood comfort, plus it has a beach!  While it may not be the most beautiful, you can’t beat being by the water. It’s a highly sought after part of the city; there are always new restaurants and stores popping up.

Here are some things to do, eat and shop.  I am considering Southie separate from the Fort Point and Seaport areas (there is so much there...that’s a whole other post!).

what to see/do
-Walk to Castle Island and have a picnic (with Sully’s of course). Lay back under the warm sun and watch the planes fly in.
-Walk along the water on Day Boulevard.
-Candlepin bowling at South Boston Bowl.
-Get a fresh cut or color at Shag.

where to eat
-For the new American, comfort food lover: Lincoln Tavern & Restaurant & Stephi’s in Southie
-For the Beacon Hill expat: The Paramount
-For the foodie and craft beer lover: Local 149
-For Italian not-in-the North End: Cafe Porto Bello
-For the sushi lover: Moko
-For a pig roast with you + 9 of your closest friends: Franklin Southie

Boutique women’s clothing & accessories: Habit, PrettyReckless, and Ku De Ta
Consignment deals: Covet and Closet Connection

Thank you so much, Jaime! Since I moved to Boston I've been wanting to explore South Boston, but was always a little lost and didn't know where to start. Now I can't wait for the warmer weather to walk around the streets of South Boston!
