Shopping online in the 1950s

As an online seller, I couldn't help but be amused by this picture shared over on Retronaut showing how we would be able to shop from home some day.

I think it is so interesting to see how the future was imagined! Sometimes they were way off, but in this picture from the 1950s, in fact, they were absolutely right - shopping channels were created in the 1970s and Americans were able to buy from the privacy of their homes using the telephone.

But, as we know, it didn't stop there and in the 1990s, Amazon and Ebay were created and today shopping online is something a little different from what is depicted there. It became something so common and simple as clicking on the "add to cart" button.

  1. Great pic. I love how this advertisements were always aimed at the housewife.

  2. Such a cool image. Oh, the future.
